Transportation is often a major obstacle for older
people as they lose their ability to drive safely. Lack of transportation can make
it difficult to obtain proper medical care, and can increase an older person's isolation
from the surrounding community.
The RIDE Program, the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority
(RIPTA) and many local communities offer some options.
RIDE
The RIDE Program offers transportation services to people age 60 or older and
to disabled people under age 60 who are receiving public assistance. for doctor
appointments, adult day care, meal sites and other medical treatments. Two to Four weeks
notice is needed.
